Camou College of Creativity has reached another major international milestone, with three student entries selected as finalists in the Rookie of the Year – Product & Industrial Design category at The Rookies 2026.

Across the full Rookie Awards 2026 competition, 6,823 entries were submitted by participants representing 533 schools and 113 countries. From this international pool of emerging creative talent, only 12 entries were named finalists in the Product & Industrial Design category—and three of those entries came from Camou.

This means Camou represents one quarter of the category’s complete finalist shortlist.

The selected entries demonstrate how product design can extend beyond visual appearance to address functionality, user needs, brand communication and real-world storytelling.

FIESTAR by Wang Wen Jie

FIESTAR is a final-year project centred on a modern unisex perfume brand. The concept combines a refillable perfume system with mosquito-repellent functionality designed for young consumers and Malaysia’s climate.

The project was developed across multiple disciplines, including product structure, packaging, branding, 3D modelling, motion graphics, storyboarding and live-action advertising.

GASP by Foo Wen Tao

GASP is a conceptual wearable that combines a smartwatch with a discreet portable asthma inhaler.

Designed to reduce stigma while improving accessibility, the product explores health monitoring, medication dispensing and emergency support through a wearable form that can adapt into a watch, necklace or keychain. The project also includes branding, product visualisation, motion design and campaign development.

LUCE by Nicholas Loo

LUCE is a futuristic graphic pen concept created for digital artists and designers.

The product is designed to interact with a smart surface sensor, allowing creators to draw, design or animate without being restricted to a conventional tablet. Nicholas developed the concept as a complete product and lifestyle brand, supported by branding, merchandise, 3D visualisation and live-action advertising.

More Than an Attractive Final Presentation

The Rookies evaluates Product & Industrial Design entries according to criteria including overall presentation, technical ability, creative skill, variety of work and employment potential.

Finalist recognition therefore extends beyond producing polished visuals. Entrants must demonstrate that they can develop ideas, solve design problems, communicate their process and present their work in a way that is relevant to the creative industry.

For Camou, this achievement provides meaningful external recognition of a multidisciplinary learning approach in which students work across product thinking, graphic design, 3D production, motion graphics, branding and filmmaking.

Building Recognition Across Consecutive Years

This is also not an isolated achievement.

LUCE was previously named a finalist in the same category at The Rookies 2025 and has now achieved finalist recognition again in 2026. Camou was also ranked No. 2 globally in Product & Industrial Design in The Rookies Global School Rankings 2025.

Together, these results demonstrate continuity: students are not only completing academic projects, but developing work capable of receiving recognition within a global creative community.

Camou College of Creativity congratulates Wang Wen Jie, Foo Wen Tao and Nicholas Loo on this outstanding milestone.

Their achievement represents more than three finalist entries. It represents three young creators transforming ideas into work that can stand on an international stage.
